Markov Chains and Dynamic Geometry of Polygons
In this paper we construct sequences of polygons from a given nsided cyclic polygon by iterated procedures and study the limiting behaviors of these sequences in terms of nonnegative matrices and Markov chains.
متن کاملOn Compatible Triangulations with a Minimum Number of Steiner Points
Two vertex-labelled polygons are compatible if they have the same clockwise cyclic ordering of vertices. The definition extends to polygonal regions (polygons with holes) and to triangulations—for every face, the clockwise cyclic order of vertices on the boundary must be the same. It is known that every pair of compatible n-vertex polygonal regions can be extended to compatible triangulations b...
متن کاملOuter common tangents and nesting of convex hulls of two disjoint simple polygons in linear time and constant workspace
We describe an algorithm for computing the outer common tangents of two disjoint simple polygons using linear time and only constant workspace. A tangent of a polygon is a line touching the polygon such that all of the polygon lies on the same side of the line. An outer common tangent of two polygons is a tangent of both polygons such that the polygons lie on the same side of the tangent. Each ...

متن کاملProjective geometry of polygons and discrete 4-vertex and 6-vertex theorems
The paper concerns discrete versions of the three well-known results of projective differential geometry: the four vertex theorem, the six affine vertex theorem and the Ghys theorem on four zeroes of the Schwarzian derivative. We study geometry of closed polygonal lines in RP and prove that polygons satisfying a certain convexity condition have at least d + 1 flattenings. This result provides a...
